Was wandering about downtown last Sunday. Entire streets were lined with vendors in makeshift stalls, selling a great assortment of wares. There were garments, jewelry, accessories, perfumes, flowers, snacks, toys, books, posters, traditional remedies (like this snail lotion which literally uses snails), aromatherapy oils and incense, and aphrodisiacs. And these were at really good prices. Sunday must be shopping day for the Chileans.
In addition to the street vendors, there were also mini parades with dancers and people in costumes entertaining the crowds. I left by mid-afternoon, because said crowds had swelled to proportions that almost made shoving necessary. Didn't want to create a spectacle. Would have had a tough time explaining if caught.
A must-visit if you like flea markets. It's also a good opportunity to sample Chilean candy and confectionary, which do look rather tempting.
